Abstract:
Scientific Fishery Systems, Inc. (SFS) proposes the design, development, demonstration, deployment and evaluation of an automated broadband sonar fish identification system that will assist commercial fishermen and fisheries manager in bycatch reduction. Although the technology developed in this project is generic to al fisheries, the following exposition will emphasize bycatch in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Island
(BSAI) region near Alaska.
This project will design a broadband fish identification system for fish in the boundary layer near the bottom. In Phase II, the design will be used to build an engineering prototype. This engineering prototype will demonstrate an automated fish stock assessment capability for fish located in the bottom boundary layer. In Phase III, the engineering prototype will be used to develop a fish identification product for commercial fishermen.
