This project investigates and researches various steering control concepts based on state-of-the-art technologies that meet the stressing weight, volume, performance and cost requirements for advanced Anti Radiation Missile (ARM) systems.Scientific Monitoring, Inc. (SMI) proposes to conduct an innovative research program to develop a highly compact and effective actuator for the steering control system. This actuator shall be packaged in an annular volume with an internal diameter of 8.5inches, outer diameter of 10.0 inches and 5 inches in length. The actuator shall be capable of developing 1200 in-lbs with a slew rate of 500 degrees per second. This actuator system, once developed, could be applied in different industries such asautomotive and aerospace. These industries would benefit from the highly compact, low weight, and high performance actuator for more energy/fuel efficiency. Â¿Increase the effectiveness of the defense.Â¿Reduction in loss of battleship and its crewmembers.Â¿Increase the energy saving due to compactness of the actuator.Â¿Reduction of total cost of ownership (TCO)from early malfunction (fault) detection. Monitoring actuator input and output signals could detect the malfunction of the system.Â¿Other industries such as automotive and aerospace could benefit the same technology for more energy/fuel efficiency.
