Abstract:

SI2 Technologies, Inc. (SI2) proposes an innovative approach to manufacturing multifunctional conformal electronics for advanced aircraft. Our approach is to integrate SI2's Direct Write materials and manufacturing technology with system design to fabricate multifunctional structures that not only meet structural and electronic system requirements, but enable the electronics to be easily repaired and upgraded as necessary. The technology is applicable to a wide variety of electrical systems, including communication and phased array antennas, and structural locations, such as wings and fuselage. The Phase I effort successfully demonstrated the feasibility of using Direct Write for these applications by fabricating a conformal GPS antenna system. The Phase II program will build upon this success and further develop the technology to demonstrate an advanced conformal antenna system for a long endurance UAV.
