Abstract:
SI2 Technologies, Inc. (SI2) proposes the use of an innovative Large-N array of sensor suites for littoral water ASW. The SI2 concept utilizes small sensors with passive and active sonar to detect modern diesel submarines operating on batteries. Using both active and passive sonar provides the system with an extremely low false alarm rate (FAR). Hundreds to thousands of these sensors may be deployed in littoral waters in a specific pattern such as a multi-mile barrier. Since each of SI2's sensors has only a short active sonar range, they are free of the acoustic multi-path problem that plagues conventional sonobuoys. Hence, SI2's sensor array is less prone to be "fooled" by spurious signals (e.g., due to ocean debris or temperature gradients). Cost effectively fabricating large numbers of these sensor suites is now possible due to SI2's state-of-the-art system integrated manufacturing techniques.
