Conformally Integrated Electronic Components to Increase the Accuracy and Range of Small Munitions (1000-053)

SI2 Technologies, Inc. (SI2) proposes to develop and implement a conformal antenna system for advanced small munitions. Advanced munitions require an increasing number of electronic capabilities in order to perform their mission with the desired accuracy and range. At the same time, the small munition environment is harsh and the space, weight and power available for the electronics are very limited. Hence, the challenge is to provide increased electronics capability within the confined space, weight and power of a small munition while at the same time being able to withstand the munition's environment. The ability to conformally integrate electronic components, particularly the antenna system, can revolutionize the performance of small munitions by providing capabilities heretofore only available on larger munitions (e.g. missiles). On the proposed effort, SI2 will utilize its two conformal electronic manufacturing technologies, Direct Write and Laser Transfer, to print and integrate electronics directly onto the curved surfaces of a small munition. A Demonstration Unit will be produced and tested to verify the performance of the system.
