Abstract:
Computer simulation in the Department of Defense has traditionally been the domain of carefully developed software and deliberatively validated models. While this has been an appropriate approach to the concern for working with accurate systems, there is increasing pressure to improve the cost-effectiveness and adaptability of simulations for today's rapidly shifting strategic and tactical landscape. The team of Soar Technology, TotalImmersion Software, and the USC Institute for Creative Technology propose to integrate the RealWorld game engine and the OneSAF simulation engine with rapid modeling tools to combine the strengths of traditional high-fidelity simulation with the cost benefits of modern, high-detail computer gaming environments. Integrated Gaming in OneSAF and RealWorld (IGOR) will allow DOD personnel to appropriately trade realism for cost effectiveness in a variety of simulation applications such as planning, experimentation, mission rehearsal, and debriefing.
