Abstract

The objective of this program is to develop a wide field of view spectral imaging sensor to support theater surveillance and intelligence. The AHS operates in the Mid Wave Infrared (MWIR) band and provides day/night spectral target cueing, geolocation and identification of hot battlefield threats. Currently deployed EO sensors can measure broadband MWIR signals, but are incapable of providing advanced spectral-temporal discrimination of targets. The primary mission of the sensor will be to identify hot targets in a battle area (such as bombs, secondary explosions, artillery, AAA, and missiles) in real time, thereby improving targeting and increasing weapons effectiveness. These sensor data products are small, amenable to automated target detection and identification, and require low bandwidth downlinks. The AHS sensor will also be capable of measuring traditional hyperspectral images, and have a staring, wide field-of-view/field-of-regard (FOV/FOR).
