Abstract

This proposal presents a work plan and design methodology for examining the feasibility of a potential watch turnover support system for use in U.S. Navy surface combatants. This proposed technology will provide an automated capability for performing a consistent, efficient, and effective watch turnover process. The goal will be to define a feasible capability for testing and evaluation in Phase II. The technology proposed will help mitigate the loss of situational awareness associated with change of personnel at watch turnover. Phase I will address the feasibility of the proposed system by evaluating human-computer interface (HCI) mechanisms and software data structures and sources. A concept of operations and experimental design will be prepared which will be executed in a Phase II evaluation of a developed prototype system.
