Award Amount:

Abstract:
Sonalysts and team members, Aptima, Inc. and American Institutes for Research (AIR), propose to meld our extensive research and development experience in the areas of human performance measurement, human systems integration (HSI), and training system design to conduct research and development of methods and strategies to support the trainer in data collection planning and trainer assignments. Key Phase I tasks include: 1) Characterization of the environment in which scenario-based training takes place. 2) Development of a concept of operations for a process that will guide operational personnel in the development of a pedagogically sound data collection plan. 3) Experimental evaluation of the methods and strategies for optimizing data collection as described in the concept of operations. 4) Development of a preliminary design document that addresses functional and software requirements of the methods and tools that will support operational personnel in the development of optimal data collection packages.
These tasks will enable the development of a prototype in Phase II that will demonstrate how to allocate personnel to meet training requirements in an efficient and effective manner. This prototype will also provide a specification for a key component of future Navy platforms' (e.g., TSTC, DD(X), LCS, LHA-R, CVN, LPD-17) training systems.
