Title:
Versatile Dense Pattern Optical Multipass Cell
Agency / Branch:
DOD / USAF
Contract:
FA9550-09-C-0062
Award Amount:
$750,000.00
Abstract:
Southwest Sciences Inc., in collaboration with the University of Texas, proposes to construct, test and deliver a versatile enhanced gain multiple pass cell for optical absorption and spontaneous Raman measurements of flames. This is achieved primarily by the use of a new multiple pass cell design capable of over 100 optical passes with a tight central spatial footprint. This system will be demonstrated using conventional and non-thermal plasma flames. BENEFIT: The development of plasma-enhanced flames holds promise for improved combustion systems for military application, including advanced engines. This multiple pass cell could provide significant enhancements in the signal levels for spectroscopic detection and measurement of important parameters in these flames to better elucidate key chemical and dynamic processes.
