Abstract:

A MAN-IN-THE-LOOP SURROGATE NODE FOR THE FORWARD AREA AIR DEFENSE (FAAD) COMMAND AND CONTROL (C2) SYSTEM ALLOWS TESTING TO TAKE PLACE WHEN THE FAAD TACTICAL C2 NODE IS UNAVAILABLE, WHICH AIDS INTHE OPTIMUM UTILIZATION OF VALUABLE RANGE RESOURCES. SUCH A SURROGATE NODE ALSO ALLOWS THE ELEMENTS UNDER TEST TO BE SUBJECTED TO BOTH LIVE AND SIMULATED TEST EVENTS, THROUGH IT CAPABILIT TO RECEIVE PRESCRIPTED SIMULATED BATTLEFIELD INFORMATION AS WELL AS INFORMATION FROM TACTICAL NODES. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROPOSAL IS TO DESIGN A SURROGATE NODE WHICH WILL MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS AND ALSO HAS THE MODULARITY AND FLEXIBILITY TO ALLOW FOR EASY GROWTH AS FAAD EVOLVES. TO ACHIEVE THIS OBJECTIVE, COST, RISK, AND UTILITY TRADEOFF ANALYSIS STUDIES WILL BE PERFORMED TO ARRIVE AT THE FINAL DESIGN. SYSTEM SPECIFICATIONS (A-LEVEL), DEVELOPMENT SPECIFICATIONS (B-LEVEL), AND PRODUCT SPECIFICATIONS (C-LEVEL) WILL BE PRODUCED. AT THIS TIME, IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE POWERFUL FEATURES OF THE MACINTOSH COMPUTER (E.G. TOOLBOX AND USER INTERFACE) MAKE IT A LIKELY CHOICE FOR THE CENTERPIECE OF THE SOLUTION.
