Abstract

Systems & Processes Engineering Corporation (SPEC) proposes to develop an automated package tracking system which incorporates PDA/portal based RFID tags with a software reconfigurable portal readers, SPEC's Falcon Gateway SATCOM link, and SPEC Communications Router hosted at the Navy's designated logistics operations center. As packages traverse the portal reader or move pass a handheld PDA, the pallet or package contents are automatically read. Upon completion of the loading/unloading operation, the cargo manifest is transmitted as a digital e-mail message via an inexpensive Inmarsat SATCOM link to a designated Navy operations center. At the operations center a communications router sorts the manifest messages and routes the messages to multiple end location databases according to the specifics of the message routing template.
