Abstract:

SPEC proposes to develop and deliver a flight capable Target Hologram Generator (THG)--a programmable flight module that forms radar hologram target countermeasure signatures of hard objects in flight--to MDA's Target and Countermeasures (T&C) program. For example, a single unit is capable of creating multiple ECM/ECCM scenarios, different emitters - separated by frequency, phase, time, and other parameters--simulating 16 false targets with arbitrary polarization generated simultaneously distributed across range and Doppler. THG ability to simulate any radar/communications system in its frequency range, allows cost effective simulation of passive or active countermeasure threat trains, from simple to complex, by using either flight test data or modeled passive missile countermeasures. This allows rapid development and verification of ECM/ECCM techniques for both hardware-in-the-loop and flight-tests settings. Directed by the SPEC Countermeasures Integration Laboratory (CIL), THG will deliver dramatic cost savings in production and integration of "realistic signatures" for T&C flight hardware, while supporting low cost, quick reaction, spiral development of increasingly capable countermeasures tactics over lifetime of T&C programs. CIL also includes full range of countermeasures (e.g., chaff, erectables and inflatables) production equipment that was used to produce the vast majority of currently deployed missile and space countermeasures systems.
