Abstract:
SYSTRAN Corporation, a Products Development Company with world-wide marketing and sales, and Prof. Paj Jain of Ohio State University (OSU), a world-class expert on ATM, are proposing practical and innovative solutions for the Voice Over ATM (VOA) problem. Our approach is based on treating the VOA problem essentially as a "traffic management" and "scheduling" problem. Prof. Jain has done considerable pioneering work in this area, and is known world-wide for it. Also, he is very active in the ATM Forum. We believe that this SBIR program will be successful because: (1) SYSTRAN is a networking company with experience in ATM-related research and product development currently, we are working on a Phase II SBIR project from the Air Force which. is developing a Gateway for interconnecting ATM with SCRAMNetR, which is SYSTRAN's real-time network (2) SYSTRAN knows how to market products, and commercialize Government-funded research; (3) SYSTRAN has the complete infrastructure (i.e., accounting, sales, marketing, customer support, production, product development and central engineering, etc.) to commercialize the innovation described in this SBIR proposal; and (4) The SYSTRAN/OSU team has all the facilities and expertise to carry out this project from Phase I to Phase III through Phase II. The Software and hardware developed to solve the "'voice over ATM problem" would lead to the practical implementation of voice over ATM network, and thus make ATM desktop machines a reality.
