Title:
Moisture Resistant BN Interface Coatings for 3D Ceramic Matrix Composites
Agency / Branch:
DOD / NAVY
Contract:
N68335-05-C-0212
Award Amount:
$79,983.00
Abstract:
Technology Assessment and Transfer will develop a novel process for applying a well aligned, uniform, moisture resistant BN fiber interface (debond) coating for three dimensional (3-D) SiC fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites (CMCs). SiCf CMCs are bill of material (BOM) for selected sections of the turbine engine and exhaust systems for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) with weight reduction as the ultimate goal. The demonstration of a hydrolytically stable BN fiber-matrix interface coating based on a novel borazine preceramic polymer infiltration approach will be completed.
