Abstract:
The objective of this Phase I SBIR task is to determine the feasibility of improving the realism and fidelity of the IR scenes using features from DMA databases and related earth mapping technology. TSC will derive direct transfer methods of visible-to-IR imagery. If the necessary realism and fidelity require processes beyond a direct transfer, we anticipate that the following innovative IR conversion techniques will be required: developing a pixel-based IR radiance model using both material type and environmental conditions as input to the model, and developing a material type extractor from the source imagery operating with either commercial classifiers or new, TSC-developed algorithms. TSC will assess the feasibility of developing and integrating these conversion techniques into the IR scene generator. TSC's experience in building imaging IR scene generators for mission rehearsal and interactive testing of IR sensors will be used in establishing requirements, evaluating current technology, exploiting innovative concepts, developing a system design and performing a feasibility analysis for the IR sensor scene generator.
