Abstract:

Clusters of cooperating small satellites with synchronized RF payloads are under investigation by AFRL/VS to construct a robust distributed/sparse aperture system with additional degrees of freedom for improved C4ISR mission performance. Linear toelliptical cluster formations, relative microsatellite spacing, transmit waveform diversity, and multi-channel STAP approaches are major elements that must be explored to assess the capabilities of the new mirosatellite paradigm. TSC will developdistributed and sparse aperture STAP algorithms to process emerging data from the DERA airborne and TechSat 21 space systems.TSC will extend the STAP analysis and algorithms, developed under the Phase 1 SBIR effort for linear and circular apertures, to develop distributed satellite payload operating mode models and sparse aperture signal processing approaches. Detailed payloadmode definition (to support on-going sparse aperture payload development), associated signal processing descriptions (relative to standard processing primitives being developed on the AFRL/VSS test bed), and experiment plan configurations will also bedeveloped. These activities will enable the AFRL/VS processing of sparse aperture payload data from airborne and orbital platforms. To maximize AFRL/VS investment, TSC will work in collaboration with AFOSR-sponsored 6.1 research, TechSat 21 M&S activities,AFRL/SN STAP and waveform diversity initiatives, and classified signal processing investigations at the NRO.
