Title:
Grid4GL: Grid Technologies for the 4th Generation Languages
Agency:
DOE
Contract:
DE-FG02-04ER84100
Award Amount:
$99,820.00
Abstract:
75780-Grid technologies provide a valuable solution for distributed scientific applications, but they are not readily available for 4th Generation Languages (4GLs), such as the widely used Interactive Data Language (IDL), AVS/Express, and MATLAB. This project will develop a set of software tools to allow 4GLs to interoperate with the Grid. These tools will include 4GLs bindings for grid services, as defined by the Open Grid Service Architecture, as well as tools for running and managing parallel and serial 4GLs processes on grids and clusters. Phase I will develop a prototype IDL client binding for Grid Services and implement a prototype Grid Service for running parallel IDL processes on a grid. Commercial Applications and Other Benefits as described by the awardee: The system should bring visualization and data analysis capabilities of 4GLs into Grid environments and make 4GLs truly distributed languages. The developed tools would be licensed to the commercial firms that currently provide 4GLs.
