The development process for new superconducting RF (SRF) cavity designs is time consuming and expensive. The cost to manufacture physical prototypes is high and money and time is wasted if the design does not perform to expectations. This situation presents an opportunity for computer simulation codes that provide insight into how the cavity design will perform before any metal is actually cut. Although the computer code VORPAL already has the needed algorithms to test cavity designs, the use of this code in developing simulations of complex cavities structures can be time consuming. This project will develop a collection of input file macros of structures and boundaries that are common to simulations of SRF cavities, making it easier for cavity designers to use VORPAL in the development of simulations to test their cavity designs. Commercial Applications and other Benefits as described by the awardee The technology should impact the design of superconducting cavities, which are used by many accelerating facilities across the United States and the world. The design of other RF structures, such as magnetrons and gyrotrons, face similar challenges. Also, the addition of these design capabilities would increase the value of VORPAL as a commercial simulation code
