Abstract:

THE HIGH COST OF VIDEODISC PRODUCTION PROHIBITS EXTENSIVE USE OF THIS TEACHING TECHNOLOGY BY EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.THIS RESULTS IN SECONDARY PROBLEMS: SPECIALIZED NEEDS OF SMALL GROUPS CANNOT BE ADDRESSED; AND OPPORTUNITY FOR IMPROVING LEARNING EFFICIENCY IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS IS BEINGMISSED; FEEDBACK FROM TEACHERS AND STUDENTS CANNOT BE USED IN VIDEODISC DEVELOPMENT; AND, THE TECHNOLOGY IS NOT USED FOR ARCHIVAL PURPOSES AT EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS. THE PURPOSE OF THIS RESEARCH IS TO EVALUATE THE APPLICATION OF NEW TECHNOLOGIES IN THE PRODUCTION OF INTERACTIVE VIDEODISCSTHAT ARE AFFORDABLE TO SCHOOL SYSTEMS. THE RESULTS WILL BE INCORPORATED INTO DESIGN PLANS, INCLUDING DRAWINGS AND COST ESTIMATES, FOR AN AFFORDABLE VIDEODISC PRODUCTION WORK STATION. SCHOOLS WILL BE ABLE TO USE THESE PLANS TO PURCHASEAND CONSTRUCT THEIR OWN LESS COSTLY VIDEODISC PRODUCTION FACILITY.
