Abstract:
Toyon Research Corporation has improved upon traditional interference mitigation techniques to develop conformal antenna systems that reduce interference with close-proximity elements. These antenna systems include fixed radiation pattern antennas (FRPAs) combined with high-impedance surface structures that greatly reduce interaction between nearby radiating structures. Toyon's antennas have several unique advantages over traditional systems. They are compact, lightweight, conformal antenna systems, thus making them viable candidates for airborne applications. In addition, their antenna characteristics, including gain pattern and surface wave magnitude, are optimized in order to maximally reject interference for a known environment. This includes stand-alone operation or for their use in larger phased arrays. Toyon Research Corporation has outlined a comprehensive Phase I project for the use of a FRPA with high impedance surface structures as a reduced surface wave antenna system. This includes the building of a prototype antenna system to be tested and evaluated during Phase I. A cost analysis will also be performed for transitioning this antenna system to commercial production and application.
