Triton Systems, Inc. proposes a Phase II effort to continue development of its revolutionary technology for casting a discontinuous fiber-reinforced aluminum matrix composite (DF-AMC) over dissimilar materials for a liquid rocket engine combustion chamber, such as Boeing-Rocketdyne's Light-Weight Thrust Chamber Assembly (LWTCA). The core innovations developed include: development and optimization of an appropriate diffusion barrier coating for the substrate material, demonstration of discontinuous fiberpreform technology and the optimization of Triton's Enhanced Pressure Infiltration Casting (EPIC) process parameters that allows for the casting of a DF-AMC over dissimilar materials. This innovation is critical for the reduction in weight and cost foradvanced space propulsion systems. Triton Systems has teamed with a major space propulsion system manufacturer to provide the necessary technical assistance (design and operational requirements) and provide a route for commercialization of the technology.
