Abstract:
Technologies for security marking and anti-tamper devices are effective, however current devices leave behind evidence that Air Force personnel were in a specific zone and can add a considerable weight to the load carried by Air Force personnel. Taking inspiration from nature, we propose a biodegradable marking and anti-tamper device that utilizes firefly luciferase and its natural substrate, luciferin, to emit light through bioluminescence. Luciferase and luciferin will be physically separated in a light weight, biodegradable matrix and will luminesce only after proper activation.
