Flexible Composite Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Barrier for the Joint Expeditionary Collective Protection System
Agency / Branch:
DOD / CBD
The main objective will be to optimize the formulations developed and tested during the Phase I program for a high-performance, flexible, composite barrier that provides protection from Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear agents and Toxic Industrial Materials. UDC will work toward the further improvement of chemical agent protection so that these flexible composite barriers will be capable of withstanding more than 72 hours of exposure to hazardous agents. Formulations, components concentrations, and fabrication processes will be fine tuned to maximize performance. A large number of samples will be fabricated and comprehensive testing will be performed. Testing will include, but not be limited to, Gelbo flex, Taber abrasion resistance, chemical agent resistance, adhesion to fabric, break strength, blocking, joint strength and stiffness. During year two of this program, UDC's test results will be verified by subcontractors, and a prototype tent will be fabricated. UDC will provide materials and application specifications for the high-performance, flexible, composite barrier. At the end of Phase II, UDC will provide a detailed report that will include all work performed, resultant data, specifications and a Phase III production plan.
