Optical Sensor for Tracking and Discrimination of Multiple Targets

In this Phase I SBIR program, Voxtel, Inc. proposes to develop a novel focal plane technology aimed at enhancing the passive and active ground-based, deep space surveillance and tracking of multiple targets in real-time. To increase the performance and functionality of tracking focal plane arrays, we have designed a monolithic, deep-depletion, SOI CMOS imager, with low noise. On-chip functions include random readout, variable windowing shuttering, and snapshot integration. Uniquely, the imager is compatible with commercial SOI CMOS fabrication processes and is scalable to large format focal planes, thereby increasing the field of view while maintaining tracking accuracy. In Phase I, leveraging we will model and simulate the in-pixel and focal plane circuits, we will assess tracking performance capabilities, and we will layout the chip for Phase II fabrication.
