Abstract

WaveBand Corporation has developed a new approach to steering an antenna by means of a plasma grating positioned in a planar semiconductor waveguide. The new approach exhibits the beamforming flexibility usually attributed to phased array antennas but is much more cost effective and thus has high potential for both military and commercial applications. In the Phase I project, WaveBand will perform a proof of concept experiment demonstrating a 1-D steering twin-beam antenna; computer simulations of beam-patterns for a 2-D conformable antenna will also be carried out.
