Abstract:
The major objective of the Phase I effort is to reduce the per channel cost of the deformable mirror from $1000 to $125. This is done by making a monolithic multilayer actuator module instead of discrete actuator stacks. Individual actuators are cored from an electroceramic block with all electrical connections made insitu. This significantly reduces the labor requirements while utilizing the cofired actuator technology developed over the past years. Demonstration of function will be evaluated in the University of Rochester's fundus camera breadboard. The mirror module serves a Dual Use purpose since it is the building block for large scale mirrors needed by Government large telescopes.
