Abstract:

THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF PHYSICS TEACHERS DEVELOPED PHYSICS: CINEMA CLASSICS (PCC) VIDEODISCS. THE VIDEODISCS CONTAIN VIDEO CLIPS AND FILM LOOPS WHICH EDUCATORS HAVE SUCCESSFULLY USED FOR DECADES. RESEARCHERS ARE DEVELOPING ANCILLARY MATERIALS TO ENHANCE THE ACCESSIBILITY OF THE VIDEODISCS FOR THE CLASSROOM TEACHER. ANCILLARY MATERIALS INCLUDE A BARCODE DIRECTORY FOR THE 2,000 VIDEO/IMAGES ON THE DISCS; APPLE MACINTOSH AND IBM/MS-DOS SOFTWARE WITH NOTES, HINTS, GLOSSARY, AND OTHER TEACHER AIDS; AND A TEACHER'S GUIDE WITH DETAILED LESSONS AND PHYSICS PROBLEMS. THE PCC DISCS, THE MACINTOSH SOFTWARE, AND THE BARCODE DIRECTORY WERE RELEASED IN EARLY 1993. THE IBM/MS-DOS SOFTWARE WAS DEVELOPED AND MADE AVAILABLE IN LATE 1993. THE TEACHER'S GUIDE IS BEING DEVELOPED. ALL PRODUCTS TO DATE HAVE BEEN DESIGNED TO ASSIST THE CLASSROOM TEACHER. THE RESEARCH IS DEVELOPING AN ACCOMPANYING MULTIMEDIA INTERACTIVE PHYSICS CD-ROM DESIGNED FOR SELF-PACED, NON-EVALUATIVE USE BY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THIS PRODUCT WILL SERVE A DIVERSE STUDENT POPULATION WITH VARYING BACKGROUNDS, LEARNING STYLES, AND ENABLEMENTS.
