Abstract:

XYBION PROPOSES TO CONDUCT A DESIGN STUDY TO DETERMINE THE MOST EFFECTIVE APPROACH TO DEVELOPING AN AIRBORNE COASTAL DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (ACDMS). THE ACDMS WILL BE USED TO CONTROL AND INTEGRATE THE DATA FROM A COLLECTION OF AIRBORNE REMOTE SENSING INSTRUMENTS PREVIOUSLY DEVELOPED FOR NOAA UNDER VARIOUS SBIR PROJECTS. THE SCDMS WILL INTEGRATE THE INSTRUMENT DATA WITH SPS LOCATION AND AIRCRAFT ATTITUDE DATA AND PROVIDE FOR NEAR-REAL-TIME ANALYSIS AND POSTFLIGHT ANALYSIS. RELATIVELY SIMPLE NEAR-REAL-TIME DISPLAYS WOULD BE PROVIDED INCLUDING TRANSECTS ALONG THE FLIGHT PATH FOR TEMPERATURE, SALINITY, OCEAN COLOR, AND CHLOROPHYLL CONCENTRATION. MAPS OF DATA FROM IMAGING DEVICES CAN ALSO BE PRODUCED. THE ACDMS WILL ALSO PROVIDE OTHER ANALYSIS TOOLS FOR THE POST-PROCESSING OF DATA. ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH COASTAL SURVEYS, AND POLLUTION MONITORING ARE ALL POTENTIAL APPLICATIONS THAT WOULD DIRECTLY BENEFIT FROM THE PROPOSED SYSTEM. POTENTIAL USERS OF THIS INCLUDE UNIVERSITY, GOVERNMENT AND PRIVATE ENTERPRISE. WHEN DEVELOPED, THE INNOVATIVE ACDMS WILL ALLOW A MUCH MORE COMPLETE REMOTE-SENSING ASSESSMENT OF COASTAL AREAS.
