Abstract:

This company upgraded the modeling system at Vanderberg AFB with state-of-the-art science three-dimensional forecast models HOTMAC (Higher Order Turbulence Model for Atmospheric Circulation) and RAPTAD (RAndom Pull Transport and Diffusion). The objectives of this effort are (1) demonstrate the feasibility of using RAPTAD to simulate nonneutrally buoyant plumes and (2) explore the possibility of incorporating a chemical transformation model into RAPTAD. These improvements, of being able to model nonneutrally buoyant plumes and chemical transformation, would made the VAFB modeling system more realistic and accurate.
