Cosite Interference (Antenna Coupling) Management Technology For Airborne Communication Systems

Hardware development of two cosite RF interference (RFI) management systems for Navy aircraft is proposed. The first system will be developed to protect VHF/UHF radio communications receivers from cosite VHF/UHF radio communications transmitters. Thissystem will use a combination of RFI cancellation and RF filtering to optimize radio reception. This system will be designed to be compatible with existing ARC-210 radios as well as future JTRS radios. The second system will be developed to protect UHFradio communications receivers from spectral sidebands that emanate from a cosite radar transmitter. This system will use a combination of DSP interference cancellation and RF filtering to optimize radio reception. Both systems will undergo laboratorytesting and on-aircraft testing to verify their performance. The results of this program will enable the Navy to operate VHF and UHF transmitters and receivers simultaneously by providing the means to protect its airborne VHF/UHF radio receivers, bothpresent and future, from the effects of cosite interference. This will allow Navy airborne communications range to be significantly increased under cosite interference conditions.
