Title: A LUGGAGE SIMULATION SYSTEM
Agency: DOT
Contract: N/A
Award Amount: $75,000.00

Abstract:

DEVELOPMENT OF A LUGGAGE SIMULATION SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO PRODUCE SYNTHETIC IMAGES SHOWING A WIDE VARIETY OF LUGGAGE WITH CONTENTS. THESE IMAGES, IN TURN, CAN BE USED BY IMAGE ANALYSIS PROGRAMS THAT THE DOT IS USING, OR WILL DEVELOP, TO CLASSIFY THE CONTENTS OF LUGGAGE. IN THIS PROPOSAL WE WILL PERFORM THE PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS NEEDED TO CONSTRUCT A SYSTEM THAT MEETS THE FOLLOWING GOALS: WITHOUT ANY DETAILED DESIGN, A USER WILL BE ABLE TO QUICKLY AND AUTOMATICALLY OBTAIN SIMULATED LUGGAGE HAVING SPECIFIED STATISTICAL ATTRIBUTES AND IN LARGE NUMBERS. A HIERARCHICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE LUGGAGE SHOULD BE CREATED. PACKED LUGGAGE SHOULD BE CREATED OUT OF REUSABLE ELEMENTS. ELEMENTS WILL CARRY THE ATTRRIBUTES OF PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES. THE USER SHOULD BE ABLE TO MODIFY OR ADD TO THE LIST OF LUGGAGE ELEMENTS. THE USER SHOULD BE ABLE TO SPECIFY ATTRIBUTES OF THE PACKED LUGGAGE (I.E., THE PROBABILITY THAT IT CONTAINS AN EXPLOSIVE DEVICE). THE PRODUCT SHOULD ALLOW THREE-DIMENSIONAL VISUALIZATION OF THE LUGGAGE. THE SIMULATED LUGGAGE SHOULD BE IN A STANDARD FORMAT EASILY CONVERTIBLE TO OTHER FORMATS.
