3-D Facial Imaging System

Digital Signal Corporation (DSC) will adapt its current operational Bio-LIDAR 3D face imaging system to SOCOM's application set and 100 Meter range requirements. The Bio-LIDAR is a highly evolved extension of an industrial metrology lidar that produces eye-safe precision 3D measurements at 60 meters. The Bio-LIDAR can monitor heartbeat, breathing and audio biological signals. During Phase I DSC will demonstrate a 3D Facial Imaging System that identifies uncooperative subjects against either 2D or 3D imagery databases at ranges up to 100 meters. The Phase I system will first detect faces in a scene then track, image and identify the faces of interest. DSC will fund parallel design efforts for miniaturization and ruggedization of the optics and the electronics subsystems, focusing on SOCOM requirements for size, weight, power and unit cost. The Phase I efforts will facilitate a low risk Phase II prototype development suitable for SOCOM field trials and evaluations. DSC's team includes Honeywell International and the University of Houston (UH). Honeywell brings its integrated face and iris security system experience, biometrics database and networking technologies, and manufacturing and marketing capabilities. UH brings the 3D FRS technology that is currently number 1 in the NIST 3D FRS Grand Challenge.
