Abstract

E-TEK PROPOSES TO INVESTIGATE THE UNIFIED THEORY AND TECHNOLOGY OF MICROWAVES, FIBER OPTICS, INTEGRATED CIRCUITS, MICROWAVE MONOLITHIC ICS (MMICS), GB/S LOGICS, AND ELECTRO-OPTIC (EO) INTEGRATED OPTIC CIRCUITS FOR HIGH SPEED OPTICAL SIGNAL PROCESSING. WAVE PROPAGATION, TRANSMISSION, NETWORK, CIRCUITS, DEVICES, MATERIALS, FABRICATION TECHNIQUES, AND SUBSYSTEM/SYSTEM APPLICATIONS AT MICROWAVE FREQUENCIES WILL BE STUDIED IN DETAIL. IN ADDITION TO THE DESIGN OF OPTICAL SWITCHING DEVICES, E-TEK WILL INVESTIGATE THE DESIGN AND FABRICATION FEASIBILITIES OF OTHER OPTICAL SIGNAL PROCESSORS, SUCH AS MODULATOR, SAMPLER, LOGICS, MULTIPLEXER/DEMULTIPLEXER, COUPLERS, DIVIDER/COMBINER, FILTER, CORRELATORS, ETC.. PRESENTLY, E-TEK HAS SUCCESSFULLY DESIGNED/FABRICATED/TESTED A 20 GHZ INTERFEROMETRIC (EO) MODULATOR ON LINBO(3) SUBSTRATE USING THE CONVENTIONAL DESIGN APPROACH.
