W-Band Circular Electrically Scanned Array

Goleta Star LLC with support from Academia, Quinstar and other supporting businesses proposes to develop a W-Band Circular Electrically Scanned Array (CESA). There are a number of alternative solutions which will be traded off in Phase I. The baseline proposed approach balances front end innovation and advanced back end processing techniques to evolve a cost-effective product for relatively small size UAV or OAV applications, with a weight goal of < 10-lbs. The target system provides 360-deg Az coverage by 60-deg El coverage, with up to 20-GHz bandwidth in the 80-100 GHz band. Radar modes of interest are Micro-Doppler MTI for hovering, SAR resolutions of 10-cm, 3-cm and 1-cm from hi speed flite, and multibeam communications. The Phase I tradeoff effort will enable the Army to select a preferred approach, from among the candidate options presented, for detailed design in the Phase I Option and development in Phase II. Limited lab testing and demonstration will be performed during the basic Phase I effort to assist in the tradeoff analysis and option formulation.
