Abstract:
Coherent Logix, Incorporated. (CLX) proposes the use of its patent-pending HyperX technology for applications requiring radiation hardness on space-based platforms. The HyperX is a novel ultra-low power, high performance, parallel processing chip (integrated circuit) that is especially suitable for digital signal, image, and vector processing. Extensive analysis of the computational performance and power requirements of the chip indicates that over 40 GFLOPS per Watt are realistically achievable. (1 GFLOP is defined as 1 billion 32-bit floating-point operations per second.) This native level of performance of the HyperX ensures that the level of performance will be well above the requisite 5 GFLOPS/Watt even after the introduction of radiation hardening measures. The effort benefits immensely from the leveraging of parallel funding and highly advanced prior development, as well as diligently planned risk-reduction measures. This program will assess and execute the strategies of radiation hardening by software design, by circuit design, and by specialized manufacturing processes to provide unprecedented computational performance and energy efficiency for space platforms.
