Abstract:
Global Technology Connection, Inc., in collaboration with their academic partners and industrial partners propose to develop a prototype integrated physics-based model and accelerated testing process that will reduce the qualification time and testing required for Li-ion cells used in LEO/MEO satellite applications. The integrated physics-based model will focus on three key Li-ion cell degradation mechanisms. Experiments will be designed and conducted to determine model parameters and their relationship with accelerated testing methods. Sensitivity analysis of the developed model will be performed to evaluate model robustness under varying conditions. The prototype system will consist of the integrated Li-ion cell model and an accelerated Li-ion cell qualification process using the model. Technology transition options to space platforms such as the Precision Tracking Space System (PTSS), SM3-IIB, and ABIR, will be explored with the help of our industrial partners throughout the program.
