Abstract

ABSTRACT: Systems that use sensors to capture the state of the equipment will generate a large quantity of data over time. The ability to monitor this sensor data and apply that information to predict maintenance issues would increase the value of this data. The system being designed will map the sensor data to the maintenance records for the system. Using the changes in the sensors leading up to a failure, the system will alert a user when similar patterns are detected. If maintenance records are not available, the system will use gaps in the sensor data to indicate that a failure occurred. The patterns will be recorded and when the same pattern is detected, an alert will be raised to the operator. BENEFIT: A system that can use sensor data to predict failure would be beneficial to any manufacturing activity. The ability to predict a failure before it occurs would potentially be a cost savings if the issue can be resolved before it causes an outage.
