Abstract

The objective of this Phase II STTP contract is to demonstrate an alternative agile acquisition approach by repurposing excess inventory legacy weapons for future mission applications. Through integration of inventory or new weapon subsystem components within the legacy weapon airframes without modifying the outer mold line (OML), new weapon employment capability may be identified and developed. Application of WOSA standards will minimize integration of new or legacy components and support technology-refresh initiatives for components hosted within the legacy weapon airframe. Applying a concept of ‘upgrade kits’, legacy weapon airframes may be provided an economical service-life extension through application of the WOSA standard. Additionally, the platform-carriage-store interface challenges may be solved by use of adaptive translator modules to enable the required logical, signal/discretes, and power services to be performed. The objective of this contract is to design a ‘pathfinder’ design kit that demonstrates the foregoing concept objective specifically for the Maverick missile airframe with a Longbow Guidance Section internally integrated within the missile airframe.
