A major drive in medical research today is the search for genes and other biological markers that can indicate a biological agent, an illness, or susceptibility to disease. In research labs, large amounts of resources are devoted to this task. Vast amounts of data are generated in studies; one of the greatest challenges faced by these labs is the task of properly analyzing the data at a rate that can keep up with its generation, as well as a strategy for tracking the results. Detecting chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction, symptoms of such an attack if it were to occur, and source of an attack are one current and frightening example of this problem. Unfortunately, our ability to detect and react to such an attack has not kept pace with this threat. Discovery Machine’s primary mission is to enable encapsulation of scientific knowledge in a manner that enables non-experts to perform advanced analysis and problem-solving tasks without needing in-depth knowledge of the technical analysis process. Our core technology platform, The Discovery Machine™, is a software system for capturing and automating this process flow – without requiring the use of complex scripting languages.
