Abstract:
Not Available Microvision proposes to provide a preliminary design for a head or helmet-mounted display that permits the tank commander to have greatly increased situational awareness without the use of a periscope and while allowing him/her to remain inside the vehicle. This display is based on the company's patented Virtual Retinal Display TM (VRDtm) that projects an eye-safe, low power, laser image directly onto the retina. The VRD eliminates many of the drawbacks of other display technologies such as LEDs and CRTs while providing high luminance and high resolution. Microvision proposes to use a head-tracking system to monitor the user's position and ensure that the information displayed corresponds with the direction of regard.
