Abstract:
Accurate Automation will design a weakly ionized gas drag reduction system for an advanced fixed wing aircraft. To this end we will develop a theoretical model for the WIG drag reduction phenomena, initiate a series of two dimensional shock tank experiments, evaluate the engineering feasibility of employing the technology on an operational aircraft, and perform a conceptual design for a wind tunnel test article. This Phase I program will lay the foundations for a Phase II program in which the WIG drag reduction technology will be demonstrated in a wind tunnel and a detailed engineering feasibility study for an operational vehicle will be performed.
