Abstract

The Pedestrian Automated System for Enforcement and Safety is a novel video and radar based system that is able to detect and track vehicles and pedestrians, and to determine when violations of pedestrian right of way have occurred. By using multiple sensor modalities the system provides a robust tracking solution. The use of radar provides long standoff detection and tracking of vehicles with highly accurate measurement of speed, allowing for prediction of when a vehicle will arrive at the crosswalk. The system will be compatible with intersections and mid-block installations, and has the potential to be commercialized as either an enforcement system or an Intelligent Warning System. The enforcement system will record evidence of violations when they are detected.
