Abstract:
Acroamatics, Inc. proposed to perform research to develop a method permitting the telemetric transmission of avionics bus data from an air vehicle under test to a remote receiving station using a narrower radio frequency (rf) bandwidth than presently required. Increasing use of digital avionics in aircraft and reduced availability of rf spectrum make this an important topic of development. The study will generate a usage scenario incorporating data stochastics and user requirements to evaluate representative bandwidth reduction techniques. This evaluation will be performed using a computer simulation to provide quantitative data from a wide variety of scenario and technology options. The results we obtain will lead to our generating a development plan to construct and test a prototype system in Phase II of the program. Although immediate commercial results of this program will largely be directed to the support of military test programs, this program will investigate potential purely commerical applications.
