Abstract:
"Recognizing the challenges that Navy faced today for the modern wireless shipboard communications, AEPTEC is proposing a design tool to assist Navy to plan and implement WLAN by characterizing and taking into account of all considerations of wirelesssignal propagation, attenuation, coverage, throughput, performance, security, and cost. The objective of this proposal is to call for a study on characteristics and requirements for "WLAN Design Tools" to perform trade-off and comparison analysis betweenvarious WLAN characteristics such as Access Point (AP), Wireless protocols and technologies, cost, and security options. It is increasingly valuable to quantify the requirements and benefits of WLAN design when more wireless based products deployed at public space. A user friendly design and validation tool aided with 3D imaging capability will become imperative forwireless network operator as well as IT professional to effectively design WLAN at various wireless medium to characterize performance and perform cost trade-off as a result of multipath and path loss and their impacts on RF attenuation, reflection, interference, coverage, topology, protocol, cost, and security."
