Abstract:
The increasing number of missile launches and aircraft operation near missile test ranges has led to an increased hazard to the aircraft from wayward debris. The proposed study will systematically review and assemble the relevant data and applicable laws of physics into a computer program that will evaluate the actual risk for both mid-air collision between an aircraft and missile debris, and the expected damage to result. This will quantify the actual risk, allowing the creation of rational "keep-out" zones in the airspace with minimal run-time manpower.
