A near-term low-cost end-to-end optical signature code is proposed which incorporates advanced physical models and simulation methods within a unified code structure to enable unprecedented levels of computational performance (speed, fidelity) for analysis and simulation of target/background signatures (spectra, imagery) and laser-radar cross sections for ground/air/space vehicles. The code is designed to support 1) efficient database generation for objects, trajectories, environments, heating, temperature, plumes, debris, etc for diagnostic analysis or time-sequenced playback, 2) comprehensive dynamic signature simulation for ground/air/space targets, sensors, backgrounds, countermeasures with application to detection, tracking, discrimination, targeting, 3) real-time dynamic signature simulation to support hardware-in-the-loop sensor/algorithm performance assessment, 4) passive/active body/plume signatures based on a unified target description and phenomenology, 5) spectral image simulation to support advanced hyperspectral sensor algorithm development and data exploitation. The code incorporates a physics-driven architecture with custom modular components to optimize time/fidelity performance and trades in signature computation. The proposed project combines legacy information with new advanced technologies to create a fast accurate comprehensive unified signature simulation tool.
