Abstract:
On-orbit servicing and logistics support spacecraft could greatly enhance the flexibility and functionality of many future MDA space assets by providing, refueling, diagnostic, or component replacement services. AeroAstro proposes to take the first stepstowards achieving an affordable on-orbit servicing and logistics capability by developing a scaleable, modular spacecraft architecture and applying it to the design of the orbit transfer vehicle, SHERPA. This approach will serve dual purposes. It willprovide the means to evaluate and refine the modular SHERPA architecture and, it will provide improved access to space for small payloads.Within the proposed effort, AeroAstro will work with the SHERPA team to develop the preliminary mission and systems level design of SHERPA. While this effort will only address the top-level design of the subsystems, the subsystem development from otherefforts will be folded into the design. The proposed effort will culminate in a Preliminary Design Review of SHERPA.
