Abstract:

"Aetion Technologies LLC will study the feasibility of applying its SFV decision-support technology to modeling, Monte Carlo simulation, and analysis of depot shop processes. The project will assess whether SFV can be used to model heterogeneous depot shopelements and systems with multiple states at multiple levels of resolution, and to simulate the flow of items through them. By running many simulations in parallel and also by varying elements of the situation we perform Monte Carlo simulations and alsoallow for the identification of worthwhile improvements and serious vulnerabilities in the process being modeled. The technical and scientific merit of applying SFV technology to this problem will be evaluated by using Generic Task methodology to analyzethe information-processing requirements of the task, by rapid prototyping to demonstrate capability and gain feedback, and by assessing the technical practicality of extending Aetion's existing code base to meet the needs of this task. If SFV can besuccessfully applied to this problem, there is a high likelihood that it can be successfully applied to a broader range of process modeling problems and, indeed, to a broader range of multiple criteria decision making problems, thus providing a path forsuccessful commercialization of the SFV technology. Aetion's technology will enable people to make better decisions, more confidently, because they will have a greater understanding of the rang
