Abstract:
Leveraging on our extensive R&D and production experience in optical MEMS switches, AGILTRON proposes to realize a new MEMS mirror array based fiberoptic array switch capable of breakthrough performances for all-optical MEMS switches under harsh operation environment. The design overcomes current shortcomings and achieves high reliability, miniature size, low optical loss, shock and vibration resistance that have not been attainable before. The approach incorporates several innovations of highly stable binary structure, very large actuation force, beam expanded collimator, and advanced packaging. The practical approach holds apromise of near term commercialization. In the Phase I program, state-of-the-art MEMS mirror array, fiber collimator array, ruggedized assembly and packaging that meet the low loss and reliable operational requirement in military/aerospace avionics fiber-optic network environments will be developed and demonstrated. Fully functional device will be produced in the Phase II.
